Velociraptor is a custom dinosaur monster truck built by Team Throttle Monster, debuting at the Monster Jam World Finals XXI pit party, on May 21st, 2022. The truck is driven by both David Olfert and Devin Winfield who drive alternating color schemes with Olfert having an orange and purple design and Winfield running a blue and green design.

History[]

2022[]

As stated above, the truck was originally revealed at the Saturday World Finals XXI pit party with Team Throttle Monster, with David Olfert being the driver, him leaving Jurassic Attack. The truck later made its competition debut at Foxborough on June 4th. The truck would later compete at a few more select summer stadium shows at Monster Jam (making it all the way to the finals in Landover, only to lose to Ryan Anderson in Son-Uva Digger, who would eventually dominate the whole event), and afterwards, primarily compete at post World Finals arena shows. The truck would also make appearances at multiple independent shows. The truck would then compete a select fall shows, notably the October Glendale show, during which it would land its first backflip. Later, on October 28th, Travis Mowery would debut a second Velociraptor truck along with a new blue and green design.

2023[]

In 2023, David Olfert competed on Arena Series West as the teammate to Bailey Shea's Monster Mutt Dalmatian on Kamikaze with a slightly updated purple and orange design & finished 4th above her. Travis Mowery runs with his new blue & green design on Stadium Tour Red. The truck got a 1:64 scale release from Spin Master. Paul Jensen drove the truck for the first Miami show, but would not drive in the second show, due to the truck having engine problems. Jeff Souza drove the truck in Tampa, due to Travis Mowery taking time off to be with his pregnant wife. The truck also ran as The Rod Ryan Show in Houston. The truck would win the racing competition in Jacksonville. Travis would finish 9th in the final standings. He would retire from full time driving after the Monsters on the Beach shows, where he won 2 freestyles. Cory Rummell drove the truck in Cleveland. Tim Hall Jr. would drive the truck in Vancouver and Nampa. Devin Winfield would drive the truck in Spokane.

2024[]

In 2024, David Olfert made his first quarter stadium debut and competed with the orange Velociraptor on Stadium Championship Series West, while Devin Winfield made his first quarter debut, piloting the blue Velociraptor on Arena Championship Series West. In San Francisco, Kermit the Frog is seen riding in the truck at both shows. Tim Hall Jr. drives the truck in Tacoma on Sunday. In Reno, Nevada, Jeff Souza drives the truck. The truck ran as The Rod Ryan Show once again with Olfert behind the wheel. David & the truck miss the first show in El Paso due to truck issues. David won the first ever racing competition at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama after beating Ryan Anderson, Charlie Pauken, and Ryan Anderson again in the final round after he came back as a fast loser. Devin finishes last on the west arena tour. David finished 10th on the West Stadium tour. David Olfert was invited to compete in the Last Chance Qualifying event at the World Finals, where he drove Velociraptor to victory in the final and qualified for the main field at World Finals XXIII. Both trucks made their video game debut in Monster Jam Showdown, with Devin's being the first unlocked and David's being an unlockable livery afterwards.

In 2025, Devin will compete on the West arena tour. It is rumored that David is stepping away from driving.

Trivia[]

  • According to David at its reveal, the truck was mainly created because of the popularity of TTM's Jurassic Attack revival.
  • The driver name of the truck is jokingly written as David Olfert "2↑", reference to David's "Too Tall" nickname.
  • For the 2022 October Glendale show, TTM was originally planning to have Paul Jensen and David Olfert switch rides where David would return to Jurassic Attack and Paul would drive Velociraptor. However, the switch-up would eventually be scrapped and they would drive their main trucks instead.
  • David Olfert was originally planned to compete on Stadium Series Red in 2023 to make his first quarter stadium debut, but would be moved back into Arena Championship Series West for unknown reasons. Travis Mowery would take his place instead. David would be put on Stadium Championship Series West for the 2024 season.
  • The truck often alternates between competing with eyes to competing without them. A notable example was when it didn't use the eyes in Foxborough, then ran with them on at the following show in Landover.
  • Some of the back teeth featured on the truck's hood are often cut off for better visibility for the driver.
  • The 3D Velociraptor body was created with Starr Creations.
  • In 2023, it would receive 3 separate die-cast releases. One by Spin Master (orange design) and two by Monster Machines (blue and orange designs respectively).
