Steve Sims (Born June 4th, 1974) is a part-time monster truck owner and driver out of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He is known for being the driver of Stone Crusher from 2007-2020 (Though he still drives the truck on occasion) and is the owner of the Monster Trucks Unlimited Team, which has won multiple Monster Jam "Team of the Year" Awards. He is also the father of Steven Sims & Trevor Sims.
History[]
Steve's career started in 2005, when he traded Dennis Anderson free counter tops for Grave Digger being displayed at his son's birthday party. Afterwards, Anderson told Sims about a truck for sale. Sims bought the truck, which he turned into Stone Crusher in 2006. Despite owning the truck, he hired Gary Wiggins (the original owner) to drive for the team.
In 2007, Sims would make his driving debut driving Pure Adrenaline for Randy Brown Motorsports.
In 2008, Sims' Monster Trucks Unlimited team expanded to two trucks. He bought the Pure Adrenaline (Sims) truck he drove for Brown in 2007 and turned it into Mopar Magic. Ricky Ownley drove the truck alongside a new Stone Crusher driven by Sims himself, after Gary retired from driving. The same year, he would make his first of many Monster Jam World Finals appearance at the World Finals IX where he would be a big surprise in freestyle.
In 2012, his son, Steven Sims joined his team and drove the team's new Hooked truck for a few years, which he designed.
In 2015, Steve and his son competed on the inaugural 2015 FS1 Championship Series. Steve later made his latest World Finals appearance at World Finals XVI. His son also competed at the Young Guns Shootout in Hooked.
From 2016-2020, Sims would compete in various Monster Jam point series', although he wouldn't receive any World Finals invites throughout these years. In 2018, he drove Rod Ryan at the February Houston show. Notably in 2020, after the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled multiple monster truck tours, notably Monster Jam, Steve would only compete at only select events onwards, with Chad Tingler becoming the main Stone Crusher driver.
In 2022, he returned in Plattsburg, New York. He was supposed to compete in Sunrise, Florida, but his son Steven drove for him. During the year, his long time crew chief Tommy Powers would pass away.
Although not being originally scheduled for Monster Jam's 2023 tours, a few days after the announcement, Sims would receive a new updated driver image, similar to all the other drivers revealed in the announcement, which caused some fans to speculate that Steve would be returning in 2023 for Monster Jam. All the lineups would be complete & Steve wouldn't be listed as a competitor, as his truck was instead driven by Frank Krmel. Steve currently does certain independent shows only. It's unknown if he will return to Monster Jam.
In 2024, Alex Bardin now drives the truck. Steve would return to driving in Cortland, Ohio. He also competed in Madison, Virginia.
