Nitemare was a series of Chevrolet/GMC monster trucks owned by Steve Hess.
The first truck was never a full blown monster truck, but a lifted show truck. It was sold in the 1990's and changed owners a few times until being restored recently to show condition. It now sports the Nitemare name again.
Nitemare II was the first of the series of monsters. Steve won the 4 Wheel Jamboree Triple Crown Championship in 1988 with Nitemare II. It was sold and it became Kid's Stuff.
Nitemare III started as a Chevrolet, but was sponsored by GMC a short time after completion. This version had a straight rail frame, as well as planetary wheel ends. It was also sponsored by Pendaliners, which helped introduce the company to monster trucks and lead into their series sponsorship. This truck was sold to Kirk Dabney and became Thunderstruck, which was Jeff Cook's first ride. It later became Rage-N-Rebel.
All the previous trucks had tilt beds and other show truck features. Nitemare IV was the tube frame race truck commonly referred to as Dabney's Nitemare, it was sold to Kirk when Steve stepped away from the sport. Kirk would retain the name rights and allow Gary Bauer to run a ford version for a while, then he sold the name to Andy Hoffman who continues to run the name today but on a limited schedule. Due to being overbooked with Nitemare III, Steve sublet the name to Howard Elwell of Stroh's Strider to fulfill booking obligations, this Nitemare was white. In 2022, Steve was inducted into the International Monster Truck Hall of Fame.
