Nick Owens (December 21st, 1980 - August 13th, 2011) was a driver out of Tonganoxie, Kansas. He drove Iron Outlaw from 2010 to 2011.
Career[]
Before monster trucks, Nick raced dirt bikes for several years. His uncle was also the owner of Owens Garage in Tonganoxie. Nick would later begin working for Jimmy and Dawn Creten of 2Xtreme Racing, helping to repair some of the truck bodies. Eventually, Jimmy asked Nick to start driving for him.
In 2010, Nick made his driving debut in Scarlet Bandit in Waterloo on April 10th as part of the Outlaw Monster Truck Spectacular. On May 8th, he had his first show in Iron Outlaw at the Monster Spectacular event in Quebec City. Nick drove Scarlet Bandit until the end of May, after which he would continue with Iron Outlaw full-time. He would also fill-in in Bounty Hunter twice, first in Laredo, Texas in October and again in Forest, Mississippi in December.
In 2011, Nick won his first and only Monster Jam stadium competition, claiming racing in Oakland. He won the Rookie of the Year award with Bari Musawwir at the end of the season. In May, Nick drove Stone Crusher as a fill-in in Muskogee, Oklahoma, clean sweeping the entire event. Nick's final ever event would be the Monster Mayhem shows in Airway Heights, Washington on the weekend of June 10-11th.
Death[]
On August 13th, 2011, Nick passed away from drowning while he was swimming at Lone Star Lake in southern Douglas County. He was 30 years old. He currently rests at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Kansas.
