Monster Trucks Wiki

Monster Jam World Finals XXIV (also written as Monster Jam World Finals 24) was the 24th Monster Jam World Finals that took place through July 4-5th, 2025 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah. This World Finals saw the return of the two-day format of main field competition, but with major changes. Instead of racing and freestyle being held on separate day, the main field was split into two groups, with each competing in one specific main field championship, and the switching the next day.. This World Finals also saw a special "elevated Jersey style" racing track.

The champions that this World Finals would crown include Tristan England in the JCB DIGatron winning the skills championship, Ryan Anderson in Son-uva Digger winning his third high jump championship, and in the main field, Todd LeDuc in the "Stars & Stripes" Megalodon winning the racing championship, marking his third and final championship, and finally with Blake Granger in the Monster Mutt Dalmatian winning the freestyle championship.

Format Controversy[]

Pre-Event[]

The all new two-day format upon announcement in early January 2025 would result in overwhelming criticism and hate across monster truck community. Many would express their distaste for it, finding it unnecessary, confusing, and even messier than the one-day format used for the previous two World Finals. Many would also express their concerns with the format, with it being considered conceptually flawed format, with many factors that could potentially degrade the event, such as truck breakage, poor/changing weather, inconsistent judging, as well as the main field championships appearing underwhelming too similar regular stadium events with 12-truck competitions.

The initial Instagram post announcing the new format and the ticket pre-sale infamously would be flooded with comments of fans expressing their hate for the new format, starting the hashtag "#fixtheformat." Monster Jam would resultantly disable the comments on the post. However, this wouldn't stop fans from expressing their opinions, as many posts following the announcement would see the same comments (example; Monster Jam's next Instagram post following the World Finals post).

Post-Event[]

World Finals XXIV following the end of the championship weekend would be considered by majority of the community to be an rather enjoyable and overall good event. Despite this, most fans would agree that the format was the biggest issue with the World Finals, it was the aspect with the most negative impact on the event, with many of the initial concerns of the format coming true. One of the most notable examples was the weather. On Friday, the event was infamously delayed by about one hour before official starting due to incoming rain. Although the track fortunately would not be too heavily ravaged by the rain, fans would express concern over the possibility of worse weather, and how the event came close to have two unfairly different conditions between Friday and Saturday. However, weather would still play an issue on Saturday, as during round 1 of group B's racing, the red lane was notoriously rutted and slick, unlike how it had the past two days, resulting in a easy win and unfair advantage to those in the blue lane. It would cause the track crew to spend over 10 minutes cleaning out the red lane before racing continued.

The other criticism about the format, more so from a fan's perspective, was the underwhelming anti-climatic atmosphere of the main field championships, due to them being shortened and having a smaller amount of competitors. This was most apparent on the Friday championships as no main field champions were crowned, and both championships ending on a cliff-hanger. Despite fans enjoying the intense action of Friday racing and especially the critical acclaim the Friday freestyle championship received, fans would point out how noticeably shorter and less grand the Friday portion felt compared to past World Finals. the Saturday championships would be considered by fans to be more intense due to champions actually being crowned,

However, alongside the unfair red-lane issues, fans would point out the issue with truck breakages from the previous night, and inconsistent judging in freestyle. The most notable breakage would be from Zack Garner who, after throwing down a crazy freestyle with a broken truck, ended up dealing with steering issues that affected his championship race and his high jump presence. It's unknown how much of the previous night's freestyle played a part in his breakage on Saturday. Lastly, despite Blake Granger running and winning freestyle on Saturday, fans would point out how much harsher and critical the judging seemed on Saturday, where minimal Saturday competitors scoring high, with only four finishing in the upper-half overall, and some drivers who gave decent performance getting much lower scores than what they would've seemingly gotten previous night, with some freestyles often being brought up in this debate including Armando Castro and Brianna Mahon.

Trivia[]

  • Jamie Sullivan was originally slated to compete in the main field and skills driving the traditional Sparkle Smash truck, having received the invites on the World Finals selection show. However, she would sustain a severe injury after being bit in the face by a rescue dog which would lead to an infection, resulting in her having to withdraw from the World Finals entirely. With her withdrawal, it would cause major changes to the LCQ bracket for the final main field spot, with two sports now be open, where the semi-finals would serve as championship races, with the winners of said races both earning a main field spot. Despite dropping out, Jamie, however, would still make an appearance at the event as a guest, cheering on the competitors among other non-competing drivers.
    • This marks the second World Finals where a driver would withdraw from the main field after having received an official invite. The first time was in 2017, where both Cole Venard and Justin Sipes would withdraw from the main field after having won their champion series months prior, and would be replaced by Randy Brown and Alex Blackwell respectively.
    • Jamie Sullivan was originally slated to run the traditional Sparkle Smash design, with Kayla Blood running a special new yellow scheme. However, due to Jamie's withdrawal, switch-ups would be made, with Kayla running the traditional design on Friday, and then running the yellow design on Saturday.
  • This would be the first World Finals to utilize pre-chosen fill-in drivers, particularly in Skills and Jump. There would be a first fill-in, and then a second fill-in in case of two absences.
  • Both defending champions of Skills (Armando Castro) and High Jump (Colt Stephens) would end up finishing in the bottom spot.
  • Cole Venard and Matt Cody being crowned the LCQ winners and entering the main field due to the circumstances with Jamie Sullivan marked the first ever instances of more than one LCQ competitor entering the main field.
    • This occurrence would mark the first instance of co-World Finals winners since 2004 which saw the infamous three-way tie between Lupe Soza, Debra "Madusa" Miceli, and Tom Meents.
    • Cole Venard being crowned an LCQ champion marked the first instance of an LCQ winner being from someone who had competed in the World Finals main field a previous year.
  • Todd LeDuc winning the racing championship would mark the first ever driver to win a main field world championship in their final season with Monster Jam.
    • This would make Todd the second driver who would never attempt to defend their championship, with him retiring full-time. The driver was Jimmy Creten in 2019, who competed in the 2020 season, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic has not returned to Monster Jam.
  • Before the main field competitions, two opening kickoff stunts were held.
    • The Friday stunt featured the exhibition debut of the new Tech Deck sponsored Wreck Deck truck with Bryce Kenny, which saw the truck do a "skateboard" trick which went into a traditional freestyle.
    • The Saturday stunt featured the real-life creation of the JCB DIGatron Smashbot, attempted by Tristan England, which would see him attempt to smash through the smashbot in the JCB DIGatron.
  • This marked the World Finals main field debut for the Terminal Velocity, Classroom Crusher, Excaliber, and Sparkle Smash trucks.
  • This marked the World Finals main field debuts for Jon Zimmer Jr. and Michael Pagliarulo, as well as Matt Cody who had won LCQ.
  • This event marked the first competitive appearance of the Grave Digger the Legend truck since 2015.
  • This show featured the competition debuts of the "Red Primer" and "Grandma" Grave Digger throwback schemes since being used exclusively in encores.
  • Blake Granger would be the first driver to receive an invite into the main field, winning the International Series championship in February and earning the automatic bid.
  • This was the first World Finals where a "selection show" would take place to select its competitors. It took place on May 19th, two days after the main championship series battles ended.
  • Dennis Anderson, Tom Meents, Heavy D, Mikayla Tulachka and Fernando Martinez were guest judges at the event.
    • Prior to the weekend, only Dennis, Tom, and Heavy D were announced, with the other two being slated to be revealed later. Mikayla would be revealed at the press conference and Fernando revealed at the Friday pit party.
  • This would be the first World Finals since 2019 where the Black Pearl would not initially receive a main field invite, only competing in LCQ, which he would win and later earn his invite.
  • This is the first World Finals since 2002 not to feature Max-D in any capacity, and the first overall not to feature a Team Meents truck.
  • This marked the first World Finals since 2018 without Linsey Read, and Cory Rummell since 2019 due to both drivers having stepped down from full-time following the previous season.
  • During the medal ceremony for the overall freestyle standings, Blake Granger was mistakenly referred to as "Blake Garner."
  • This World Finals, alongside World Finals XXV the following year, used an Independence Day theme, with the Friday event taking place on said holiday. Notably, at the end of the Friday show, an encore ceremony of fireworks was held in celebration of the holiday.
