Track layout[]
In comparison to the previous World Finals, the tracks for World Finals XVI did not feature any vehicles embedded in the obstacles, as they consisted of ramps that were constructed entirely out of dirt. Meanwhile, the track itself featured the traditional step-up plateau as the center ramp, with the traditional racing lanes on each of its sides. Next to each racing lane would be a series of dirt hills, followed by a plateau. The near end of the track featured a shipping container backflip ramp, with the far end featuring the backflip wall. The track for the freestyle competition consisted of two dirt sections, both of which contained a series of dirt hill ramps. A small set of crush cars would also be placed somewhere in front of the backflip wall.

Freestyle encore[]

The encore logo.

Zombie crashing into another Zombie.
The freestyle encore featured three different zombie monster trucks sitting on one side of the track, with two of those jumping at three more zombie monster trucks, where one was positioned on a jump and the other two crashed into it. All six zombie trucks had different designs, hairstyles, arms, and some zombies had fake people on them. Fans response to the encore was mixed. Fans criticized the idea of having trucks drive right over and crush each-other, its short duration (as all of the trucks broke or crashed rather early in the encore), as well as the stadium's lighting during the encore. Although fans appreciated its intended setting, they also complained that it made the encore rather difficult to see and has even raised safety concerns regarding poor visibility of the track.

Trivia[]
- This event marked the first World Finals to have more than one truck of the same name competing (e.g., Three Grave Digger trucks, three Max-D trucks).
- This event marked the last of the following occurrences:
- The last World Finals (so far) in which all three Monster Mutt trucks competed together.
- The last World Finals in which trucks received single-digit scores in the standard six-judge scoring during freestyle, being Doom's Day, Barbarian, Scooby-Doo!, and Mohawk Warrior.
- This event, along with the previous World Finals, shared many similarities to World Finals V and VI. In this instance, a truck that was part of Team Grave Digger (Grave Digger in 2004, Grave Digger the Legend in 2014) would win the world racing championship, and a truck whose name started with the letter 'M' (Madusa in 2004, Metal Mulisha in 2014) would win the world freestyle championship. Then, exactly the next year, the truck that previously won the freestyle championship would win the racing championship (while also defeating a Team Grave Digger truck in the process) (Madusa defeated Grave Digger in 2005, Metal Mulisha defeated Son-Uva Digger in 2015), and an independently-owned truck that had not won any prior championship would win the world freestyle championship (Bounty Hunter in 2005, Overkill Evolution in 2015).
- An odd incident that happened during freestyle was when Bounty Hunter performed with two theme songs playing at once during the performance. This was caused by an audio glitch in the computer (used to play themes during the freestyles) during the run, in which it would play "Cowboys From Hell" by Pantera (Bounty Hunter's usual theme) and "Down With The Sickness" by Disturbed at the same time during the run. The cause of the glitch is unknown. This is so far the only time this has happened to any truck that performed in freestyle anywhere in Monster Jam.
- During the FS1 coverage for the first part of freestyle, the rest of Titan's freestyle after his backflip was cut and not shown due to there being a 43 minute time limit run time for the episode.
