Jon (Johnathan) Zimmer Jr. (born March 14th, 2000) is a monster truck driver out of Grandy, North Carolina. He is the driver of Terminal Velocity, formerly with Over Bored Motorsports. He is the son of Jon Zimmer as his name would suggest.
Career[]
Zimmer Jr. officially began driving monster trucks in 2020, when he joined Over Bored Motorsports to drive the recently introduced Terminal Velocity.
In 2021, Zimmer Jr. made his first Monster Jam appearance in Oklahoma City in May and would win the skills challenge competition during the Sunday afternoon show. He would also go on to win that year's Monster Truck Throwdown championship.
In 2022, Zimmer Jr. competed in Monster Jam Arena Championship Series Central and finished 5th. He would also make select appearances in Arena Championship Series East in Hampton and Little Rock. He later won the rookie of the year along with Weston Anderson at the World Finals. Later that year, he drove Dirt Crew and in Dayton, Ohio, he drove Hooked.
In 2023, Zimmer Jr. competed on Arena Series Central. In Allentown, Pennsylvania, he tied Brandan Tulachka's score in freestyle at one of the shows. A tie is rare with the JudgesZone scoring system. On the series, he would have a very notably rivalry with Brandon Vinson throughout the year, both being in a tight points chase that would eventually come down to the final weekend of the series in Green Bay. However, Brandon would eventually win the series over him, with Jon finishing in second place being the highest ranked independent Monster Jam driver of the 2023 season. Jon Zimmer Jr. & his dad appeared on Inside Monster Jam later in the year. In Fremont, Michigan, he drove Block Head. In Miami, Oklahoma, he drove Dirt Crew & became the king of Miami. During freestyle at show 1, the truck shut off during a jump and nosedived, breaking off a wheel. Jon was not injured. He would make a World Finals appearance as a two-wheel skills competitor, finishing 2nd to Tyler Menninga. In Escanaba, Michigan, he drove Dirt Crew again. His chassis would later be used for the team's new truck, Tannerite, which is driven by Tanner Swinhart at an independent show in August. He would drive Just Get Er Done II in the Tampa arena shows as a fill-in for Brandan Tulachka. He later left Over Bored Motorsports at the end of 2023 to debut his own team, Send It Motorsports, alongside his father.
In 2024, the truck re-debuted on a new Concussion chassis. Jon competed with his dad in the new Uproar truck. Jon Zimmer Jr. would win the All Star Monster Truck Tour, with his dad in 2nd place. In Miami, he would defend his King of Miami title, making him one of the few drivers to win it twice. Him and his father returned to Monster Jam competition in Nashville. This would be his first Monster Jam stadium show & his dad's first Monster Jam event in 4 years. It was also Uproar's first Monster Jam show & the first stadium show for Terminal Velocity. At the Cook Out Monster Truck Bash in Charlotte, he won racing, but crashed & nearly ripped the rear off the truck completely, resulting in him missing out for freestyle. He would appear on Inside Monster Jam again, along with his dad.
In 2025, he competes on the Central arena tour. In Hampton, Terminal Velocity starts using shortened bedsides & no tailgate. In May, he would become the first independent driver to win a Monster Jam points series, doing so at show 3 in Southaven. He would get his invite to compete in Monster Jam World Finals XXIV. For the event, he ran a blue design for the Friday show. Jon would win the Arena Freestyle of the Year award. He appeared on Inside Monster Jam again to talk about his arena tour championship. In Miami, Oklahoma, he drove Uproar at one of the shows because his truck was having mechanical issues. In August, he became the fifth driver to double down at the Cook Out Monster Truck Bash, winning both racing and freestyle. Since the World Finals, he has used the blue bedsides from the World Finals body for several events. In Syracuse, he would win racing, his first stadium racing win. In October, his truck received a new chassis in Wheatland, Missouri.
In 2026, he will compete on the east arena tour.
