Ground Pounder is a custom off-road monster truck owned by Sudden Impact Racing out of Jefferson, Louisiana. It is based off of the RC truck of the same name, which was created by Redcat Racing. The truck was driven by various drivers, most notably Ben Winslow, Chris Ryan, and team owner Brandon Lagarde.
History[]
2010[]
Ground Pounder originally debuted on January 8th, 2010 under a custom Ford body style and with Ben Winslow driving. At the time of its debut, the truck ran under the name “Sudden Impact’s Ground Pounder”. Jon Zimmer drove the truck at Dixie Speedway in Georgia.
2011[]
The name was shortened to simply Ground Pounder. Chris Ryan also joined the team the same year, sharing driving duties with Winslow. Kevin Koszala drives the truck in Sandusky, Ohio.
2012[]
Winslow left SIR to drive for 2Xtreme Racing, while Ryan continued to drive the truck until his retirement by the end of the 2012 season.
2013[]
Following Ryan’s retirement, Steven Hill took over the driving duties, with Mike Dufrene driving the truck in New Orleans. Both drivers continued to drive the truck until Brandon Lagarde took over the driving duties, following the release of a majority of the team’s drivers.
2015[]
Ground Pounder received an updated Custom Offroad body style. The truck would continue to compete with Legarde driving until 2016, when SIR went into hiatus due to multiple reasons. Since then, Ground Pounder, along with all the other trucks on the team, were put into storage.
2025[]
The truck returns to competition with a returning Brandon Lagarde behind the wheel, primarily competing alongside Sudden Impact. Chris Whatley drives it in Dickinson, Maryland.
