Flame Motorsports was a monster truck team owned and operated by David Smith from 2000-2018 out of Spring, Texas.
History[]
2000[]
David Smith purchased King Krunch from Scott Stephens, who initially retired.
2004[]
Daron Basl joined the team and would debut a teammate truck, named El Matador.
2007[]
The team began running Fiesta at Monster Jam events in Houston, Texas until 2011. Later that year, both Nitro Hornet and Nitro Fish debuted.
2008[]
Family Guy would be run on El Matador for one event in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
2010[]
The team intended to expand to 3 trucks with an unknown third truck to be created which never ended up happening. The team would resurrect the idea in 2013, culminating in the creation of Big Kahuna. At World Finals XI, El Matador’s chassis was used to run as Madusa for the encore.
2011[]
Break the Chain would be temporarily run on El Matador.
2012[]
The Rod Ryan Show would be run on El Matador in Houston.
2013[]
Big Kahuna made its debut, at the time for Flame Motorsports.
2014[]
Daron’s brother Aaron Basl would join the team. In December, the team began running New Earth Authority for the More Monster Jam (later AMSOIL and Triple Threat) series on various team chassis until the truck’s retirement in 2017. They also began campaigning Monster Mutt Rottweiler on the Nitro Hornet chassis for the same tours until the team pulled out of Monster Jam in 2017.
2015[]
Big Kahuna began competing independently from the team.
2018[]
Dillon Fenley of DRF Motorsports would acquire the entire operation, and David Smith would retire.
