Over Bored is a 1972 Chevrolet C-10 monster truck owned and driven by Jamey Garner of the eponymous race team out of Fortville, Indiana. Since its debut in 2013, the truck has become a staple of multiple monster truck leagues, including Monster Jam and Monster Truck Throwdown, where the truck has won two championships.

History[]

Over Bored was created in 2013, after Jamey Garner purchased the previous High Maintenance chassis from Perrin Motorsports. The truck would enter its first full year of competition the following year, with Garner behind the wheel. At the time, the truck would compete mainly on the Toughest Monster Truck Tour, but would later make their debut in Monster Truck Throwdown. During their debut season, Garner and the truck would capture the latter league’s championship. The following year, Over Bored made its first Monster Jam appearance that September at Knoxville, Iowa. In Saginaw, Michigan, former Brutus driver Chris Bergeron drives the truck.

Over Bored would receive a major update for the 2016 season, as the truck debuted a brand-new design, featuring a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado body style on a new Cohen chassis. Meanwhile, the original truck would be converted into Wild Side. Over Bored would be driven by Travis and Tyler Groth of Mirror Image Racing, while Garner would drive Wild Side.

In 2017, Over Bored entered its first full year of competition with Monster Jam, competing in Stadium Championship Series 3. For the series opener in Tampa, Florida, the truck would debut a special white-and-red paint scheme, sponsored by Stepp’s Towing. Said body would also run in the Orlando shows. Titan driver Donald Epidendio also drove the truck for the series' Anaheim show.

In 2018, Over Bored would compete in Monster Jam Stadium Championship Series 2, along with its new teammate, The Black Pearl. The Stepp’s Towing body would be run again for the series’ Tampa and Orlando shows. In July, the truck would debut a new design, featuring a new 1972 Chevrolet C10 body style.

In 2019, Over Bored would return to running its previous 2013 Chevrolet Silverado body. The truck would compete on Monster Jam Stadium Championship Series 3. For the series’ Atlanta show, it would debut a special orange, black, and yellow paint scheme, sponsored by Hardy Chevrolet Buick GMC. The truck would later win its second Monster Truck Throwdown Championship.

In 2020, Over Bored competed in the Monster Jam Stadium Championship Series Red. Garner and the truck would experience great success that year, winning the racing competition in the series opener in Anaheim, and later winning the freestyle competition in Tampa. For the latter show, the Stepp’s Towing body would return with an updated design. For the series’ second show in Indianapolis, the truck would resume using the Chevrolet C-10 body with an updated design. After the series prematurely ended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Over Bored competed in select events throughout the remainder of the season.

In 2021, Over Bored competed in the Monster Jam Stadium Championship Series. The Stepp’s Towing design would begin running on the C-10 body in February. During that year’s Monster Jam shows in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jamey would suffer an injury during the second show that would keep him out of the driver’s seat for the time being. Meanwhile, his son Zack would fill in for him for the third show and would go on to win the freestyle competition. Other drivers would also drive Over Bored in Garner's place, most notably former El Toro Loco driver Marc McDonald, who would drive the truck for select shows, including a show in Miami, Oklahoma. Former Dragon driver Jon Zimmer would also drive the Stepp’s towing design of the truck in select summer shows.

In 2022, Over Bored competes in Monster Jam Stadium Championship Series Red. During the series' Arlington events, the truck would receive a new paint scheme being based on the American flag. The truck would finish 11th in the standings in between the Tomfoolery Motorsports trucks. Despite this, however, the truck later made its first World Finals appearance along with its teammate, which made its second appearance (third overall for Cole). The truck would debut a new blue chrome body, along with new color changes on the body. The truck would be eliminated in the first race of the event by rookie driver Weston Anderson and later finish 10th in freestyle, 3 trucks below its teammate. Over Bored went back to the black body for a short period of time. The blue World Finals body returned in the summer at an independent show. The truck would also start running a solid blue body, similar to the World Finals body. For the fifth show of Rosemont, Arlington, & Orlando, the truck ran the Avengersracing Kermit plush, similar to its touring partners El Toro Loco and Lucas Stabilizer.

In 2023, the truck runs as El Toro Loco for the first quarter season. Due to the El Toro Loco body not fitting on the Cohen chassis, Jamey switches to the Eddie chassis originally used for Miss Over Bored and the Cohen chassis becomes the new Miss Over Bored. Notably during the season, due to Over Bored Motorsports not competing in their home-state of Indianapolis, Jamey Garner and Jim Koehler would collaborate and have Jim run a special Over Bored themed body style for Avenger at said location. Although Jamey would not receive a Monster Jam World Finals XXII invite, his Over Bored chassis would be used competitively by Cole Venard as The Black Pearl after Cole's truck would suffer major electrical issues. The Over Bored name later returns to competing in Monster Jam and later in Sunrise, Florida, a brand-new paint scheme debuts, which switches its colors up to correlate to the truck's orange El Toro Loco bead locks.

In 2024, Chad Tingler drives the truck on Arena Championship East. The truck also debuted a new red paint scheme, similar to its debut design. Starting in Cleveland, the Sunrise body would return. This was likely due to lots of damage to the red body. Jamey continues to run El Toro Loco on his chassis for Stadium Series East.

Trivia[]

  • According to Over Bored Motorsports' Facebook page, the truck's name comes from the fact that its original paint scheme was a bit "overboard", and that their first motor had been "bored" out, so they put the two together.
  • The Stepp's Towing design was inspired by a custom 1:24 scale Stepp's Towing diecast created by fan Jody Roberts.
  • During the Monster Jam World Finals XIX pit party, Over Bored was displayed on the Trouble Maker chassis. This was due to the original chassis being used to display The Black Pearl, which in turn was due to the chassis being stored exclusively for competition.
  • The reason for the truck returning to the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado body style in 2019 was due to the team only having one C-10 body, which would be expensive to repair if it was damaged in a show.
  • In 2023, Camden Murphy would run a paint scheme similar to Over Bored's original red scheme when he attempted to make the 2023 NASCAR XFinity Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The car would be sponsored by Jamey Garner's Garner Trucking.
