Earth Shaker is a custom dump truck monster truck owned by FELD Motorsports. It was primarily driven by Tristan England out of Paris, Texas since its debut, but has also been driven by Steven Thompson and Peter Nyman, as well as various others. Since its debut in 2017, Earth Shaker has been a major staple of Monster Jam and has won three arena series championships, winning two Triple Threat Series championships in 2018 and 2019, and an arena series championship in 2023. The truck has also competed in every Monster Jam World Finals since winning the Double Down Showdown championship in 2017 and later the racing championship in 2023.

History[]

Earth Shaker was first announced in 2016 as one of two new trucks, alongside Megalodon, for the 2017 Monster Jam season. The truck entered competition the following year, with Tristan England driving. England and the truck competed in the Triple Threat Series East, and would later be invited to compete in the Double Down Showdown at Monster Jam World Finals XVIII. They would go on to win the competition, defeating Eric Swanson in Obsessed, and earning the thirty-second and final spot in the main event. Later that year, Bari Musawwir would temporarily drive a second Earth Shaker on his Zombie chassis for events in Asia and Australia. In Beijing, China, Jon Zimmer was the driver.

A second Earth Shaker was added to the team for the 2018 season, being driven by Steven Thompson on the Hurricane Force chassis. England would compete in the Monster Jam Triple Threat Series West, while Thompson competed on Stadium Championship Series 3. England would win his series, receiving an automatic invitation to Monster Jam World Finals XIX. Meanwhile, a third Earth Shaker was added to the team, competing exclusively in that year’s European tour. It was driven by Peter Nyman on the Thor chassis.

In 2019, England competed in the Monster Jam Triple Threat Series East, while Thompson competed in Stadium Championship Series 2. Part-way through the first quarter, England would be unable to compete in an event in Vancouver, due to unidentified family emergencies, resulting in Roger Stidell driving the truck in his place. Jared Eichelberger would fill in for England for the remainder of the series, as he suffered an injury sometime after the Vancouver show. Earth Shaker would win the Triple Threat Series, and England would return to drive the truck in time to compete in the main field and Two-Wheel Skills competitions at Monster Jam World Finals XX. Meanwhile, Nyman would continue to drive his Earth Shaker on the European tour.

In 2020, England and Thompson competed in the Monster Jam Triple Threat Series East and Stadium Championship Series Yellow, respectively. After both series abruptly ended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Earth Shaker would be placed on hiatus for the time being, as England would temporarily drive Megalodon the following year.

In 2022, the truck returned with Tristan back behind the wheel and he would compete on Arena Championship Series West. He would have a notable rivalry with Brandon Vinson on the series, but would eventually finish in second place to him. He would later receive an invite to World Finals XXI. Peter Nyman would also return to driving the truck in London for Monster Jam's first international show since the COVID-19 pandemic. In Tampere, Finland, Peter would win racing and freestyle at show 3. He also competed in Arnhem, Holland.

In 2023, Tristan would drive Earth Shaker on Arena Series West and Hunter Souza would drive a second Earth Shaker on Arena Series East on his Wrecking Machine chassis. Peter Nyman would drive the truck on the Thor chassis at Stockholm, Sweden, famously competing strong and winning the overall event. Tony Ochs would then drive the truck at the rest of the international shows. The BKT display truck would also debut a body using the same custom body mold as Earth Shaker. Tristan England would go on to win the Arena Series West championship in late April after having a long rivalry with Elvis Lainez in El Toro Loco throughout the year, earning the third invite to Monster Jam World Finals XXII, as well as competing in the skills challenge. Meanwhile, Hunter would go on to finish seventh on Arena Series East in between the Monster Trucks Unlimited trucks. At the World Finals, Tristan would go on to place sixth in qualifying and would eventually win the racing title, defeating Camden Murphy in the Bakugan Dragonoid. Prior to this, Tristan, along with majority of the skills competitors would have unsuccessful runs where he would finish 5th with just a 2.915. Jeff Souza drives the truck in Bakersfield. Various drivers would drive the Team Throttle version for post World Finals shows including Zach Jensen, Devin Winfield & Trent Montgomery. Nate Kirchener drives the truck in Edmonton. Tristan competed on Team Neon in the Superstar Challenge in Anaheim on November 11 and was crowned the most valuable driver after his team won, despite Tyler Menninga winning every competition for Team Nitro. Tristan's last show in the truck was in Omaha. At show 1, he didn't compete at all. He left the team to debut the new JCB DIGatron truck on the east stadium tour.

In 2024, the truck competed on Arena Tour West with new driver James Calhoun. In late February, James would be released from Team Throttle. Joe Urie would take his place for the rest of the season. In Fresno, Hunter Souza returned to the team for shows 3 & 4. Nate Kirchener drives the truck in Tucson. David ''Too Tall'' Olfert drives the truck in Green Bay. The truck finished 7th at the end of the tour. Krazy Train driver, Triton Robbins makes his Monster Jam debut & drives the truck in Albany. Tim Hall Jr. drives it in Charlotte.

Trivia[]

  • When first announced, Earth Shaker's original working name was Dump Truck, which was very literal.
    • Its name was likely changed due to controversy from many fans, claiming that the design was stolen from another intendent dump truck-themed monster truck, Dirt Crew.
  • During the Vancouver 2019 show, Earth Shaker used a cardboard right-side panel without detailing. (See gallery) This was due to the team being unable to get a new fiberglass panel in time for the events.
  • Earth Shaker is one of only two trucks to have won the Showdown competition in the same year as their introduction, the first being Overkill Evolution.
  • Earth Shaker's Spin Master toy features a dirt mound in the bed of the truck. This part is not featured in real life.
  • During a Monster Jam event at Houston, Texas on February 10, 2020, Earth Shaker had just completed a race against its teammate Zombie, when one of the body's fiberglass panels came loose and flew into the stands. The panel struck a group of people, which included a young girl. None of the people involved in the accident were seriously injured.[1]
  • For unknown reasons on the Monster Jam website, shows that feature Earth Shaker list the truck and driver as TBD. This is still the case in 2024.
  • Tristan winning the racing championship at Monster Jam World Finals XXII in 2023 marked the first driver to win said championship with a first round-bye since Tom Meents won the title in 2012 at Monster Jam World Finals XIII.
