David Whitney Harkey (November 8th, 1959-April 19th, 2008) was a monster truck driver out of Staunton, Illinois. He was best known for driving Bigfoot, as well as the T-Wrecks version.
Career[]
Harkey was initially hired by Bigfoot 4X4 in 1988.
In 2000, Harkey moved to drive for Paul Shafer, piloting the rear-engine Monster Patrol, as well as Shafer's Tonka truck. He drove Monster Patrol during the Monster Trux 2000 event and was even featured on the U.S. version of Scrapyard Wars alongside drivers like John Seasock. By the Summer of 2000, Harkey would then move on to Team Bigfoot, piloting the truck until 2007.
In 2001, he drove the Xbox Bigfoot.
In Red Bluff, California 2006, he drove the Breast Cancer Awareness Bigfoot.
Arrest and death[]
After having left Bigfoot, Dave was involved in an attempted robbery at a local store, in which he would be arrested for. While incarcerated, he made a suicide attempt and was moved to a nearby hospital where he died on April 19th, 2008. It was strongly believed he was under some form of substance abuse at the time. Bigfoot subsequently held a memorial event for Dave.
