Daron Basl (born November 10th, 1980) is a monster truck co-owner and driver out of Salem, Oregon. He is co-owner of Double Action Motorsports (based out of Grand Island, Nebraska) with his twin brother Aaron Basl. As a monster truck driver, he is the current driver of Block Head, but was most famous for driving El Matador and Nitro Hornet.
Career[]
Daron started his monster truck career driving Bear Foot for 2Xtreme Racing in 2000, while his brother Aaron crewed for him.
In 2002, Daron left 2Xtreme Racing and was hired by David Smith to drive for Flame Motorsports.
From 2003-2012, Daron would drive El Matador as the teammate to David Smith's King Krunch.
In 2008, Daron drove Family Guy for one show in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on his El Matador chassis.
In 2009, Daron wins his first ever televised Monster Jam event in St. Louis, winning the racing competition.
In 2011, Daron drove Break the Chain as a temporary look for El Matador.
In 2012, Daron drove his El Matador truck, as well as Grave Digger as a last-minute fill-in in Portland.
In 2013, Daron performed double duty in Phoenix by driving both Nitro Hornet and King Krunch, Sky Hartley was supposed to drive Nitro Hornet, but he was unable to do freestyle for reasons unknown. He took Nitro Hornet to the 2013 and 2014 Young Guns Shootout. Daron also drove King Krunch a few times in 2013, and also drove Graffiti on his Nitro Hornet chassis for one show at a Robby Gordon stadium event.
In 2015, for the first time in almost 10 years, the twins became teammates after Aaron joined Flame Motorsports. The brothers ran the More Monster Jam tour, with Daron driving Monster Mutt Rottweiler, and Aaron drove New Earth Authority. They returned to drive the trucks again in 2016 and 2017.
In 2018, Flame Motorsports was sold to Dillon Fenley. Daron doesn't get a full-time ride, but did fill-ins for teams like Vaters Motorsports, driving Overkill Evolution.
In 2020, Daron drove Black Stallion on a Stadium Tour finishing 14th. In the fall, his team purchased the Devastator and The Felon trucks after Mark Schroeder retired.
In 2021, Daron drove Wild Card in Los Angeles and San Jose as the teammate to Eric Swanson's Obsessed. He also drove Wolf's Head as the teammate to Jack Brown's FTI Torque in Dayton, Ohio & Radford, Virginia.
In 2022, Daron drove Dirt Crew Dozer at Sycamore Speedway for the Monster Truck Throwdown series as a teammate to Dirt Crew.
In 2023, Daron drives Maximus for Badlands Racing, before debuting the new Block Head truck at the Monsters at the Beach event in May. That same year, he drove Dirt Crew in Pueblo, Colorado.
